Grab the nearest box of tissues because Tyler Childers’ most recent song video is certain to make you cry.

The 32-year-old singer-songwriter debuted the music video for his new song “In Your Love” on Thursday. The tearjer king piece depicts the tale of two male coal miners who fell in love while working in Appalachia in the 1950s.

The couple is portrayed in the ad by Colton Haynes and You actor James Scully. The film opens with Hayes’ character, an elderly guy who is reminded of his past as he stops to pick up a four-leaf clover while plow a field.

Flashback scenes show how Haynes and Scully met while working together and went on secret dates in the woods where they collected four-leaf clovers.

When After being attacked for being a couple after being outed by a fellow miner, they leave town and start a beautiful life together filled with date nights and private moments. In one scenario, they visit a neighborhood bar where Childers and his band are performing live.

Despite the success of their farm, Scully’s character, who has been battling coughs, develops black lung, and their happily ever after is interrupted when he passes away in Haynes’ arms on a porch bench.

In the final scene of the video, an elderly Haynes is seen sitting on the same seat and holding a four-leaf clover. The actor referred to the video on Instagram as “one of my favorite projects I’ve ever been a part of.”

Author Silas House, the current Poet Laureate of Kentucky, where Childers is from, wrote and creatively directed the video. Bryan Schlam directed the video, and House and Jason Kyle Howard came up with the plot.

“I could never have envisioned seeing that as a gay teen who loved country music,” said I appeared in a video. This visibility is important. “LGBTQ people have always lived in rural areas, and now we’re finally seeing that represented in a country music video,” House said in a statement. “Tyler and I both felt that the attention to detail about rural life was very important, so we made sure that the house and the people looked realistic for the time period instead of the stereotypes of country people that have become so ingrained in the general public consciousness.”

To illustrate the “joy and… sorrow” that both gay people and rural people experience, House claimed that he and Childers used photographs of their own families as references.

“Too often simplistic notions are pushed about both rural and LGBTQ people, so we did everything we could to make this story as rich and layered as possible,” the author stated.

The first single from Childers’ next album Rustin’ in the Rain, which will be available on September 8th, is the piano-driven “In Your Love.”

In a statement, he stated, “This is a collection of songs I playfully put together as if I were selling a bunch of songs to Elvis. “There are some covers, one co-write, and some that I even wrote in my worst (terrible) Elvis voice.” As I worked on the farm and kicked around the home, I pretended to be someone else. I sincerely hope you like this album’s listening as much as I did making it. I’m grateful. I appreciate it very much.

The Food Stamps, the two-time Grammy nominee, are now on tour.
